Massage Therapy services:
|
Your therapist will design every massage session to meet your needs whether that is relief of pain,
reduction of stress, relaxation or a combination of benefits.
Drawing on a variety of skills to provide those benefits your therapist may use some of the following
techniques. As each of our therapists have varied experience and advanced training, they may not all
provide the same techniques but they all will do their best to meet your massage therapy need. Please
discuss your requirements and preferences when booking your appointment. Thank you.
|
Swedish Massage:
|
Swedish Massage is the foundation to which many other techniques are added. Using oil, crème, gel or lotions
to glide over muscle tissues, Swedish Massage is deeply relaxing, releases muscle tension and pain, makes movement
easier and enhances your sense of well-being. Pressure may be light, medium or firm depending on your
preferences.
|
Relaxation Massage:
|
Relaxation Massage utilizes a variety of techniques usually incorporating a strong foundation of Swedish
Massage to enhance deep relaxation of muscles releasing tension and pain, soothing the central nervous system
which also promotes mental relaxation further reducing stress. Again, pressure may be light, medium or firm
depending on your preferences.
|
Therapeutic Massage:
|
When seeking more complex forms of therapy involving health improvement and rehabilitation consider Therapeutic
Massage. TM usually requires a treatment plan for a specific need or area over a specified period of time.
Typically, weekly appointments are recommended to insure that the benefits of the techniques used can produce the
desired result. Because time is needed for the body to heal and integrate the changes necessary for recovery
usually a session or two will not provide the relief you need. Understanding that not all therapeutic massage
sessions need to be 60 minutes in length, often times, short and intense sessions (30 to 45 minutes) can produce
greater results, makes TM more affordable. Consult your Massage Therapist to discuss your therapeutic massage
needs and to design a program of care.
|
Deep Tissue Massage:
|
Deep tissue massage is applied with fingers, thumbs, forearms and elbows to release deeper muscles and various
forms of connective tissues. Please note that while many people ask for deep tissue want they really want is just
a firmer pressure. Talk with your Massage Therapist to determine if you want deep tissue massage techniques or
just deeper pressure with your massage session.
|
Sports Massage:
|
Sports Massage can be used prior to a sporting event or workout to enhance performance or can be used after an
event or training session to relieve muscle tension and pain from over exertion soreness and assist recovery. Used
regularly whether you are a professional, dedicated amateur or weekend warrior Sports Massage relaxes muscles
and increases range of motion reducing potential for injury and enhancing your body's ability to perform.
|
Light Therapeutic Massage:
|
Used to relieve occasional aches and pains as well as stress reduction and health enhancement. Good for getting
the "knots" out.
|
Trigger Point Therapy:
|
Different from acupressure, Trigger Points are nodes on a taut band of muscle fibers or connective tissues that
can both restrict movement of the muscle and cause pain in the local area or radiate pain to another area.
Treatment can relieve pain and increase movement. Therapist use techniques based on the original research and
development of Janet Travell, M.D.
|
Stretching:
|
Is used in your massage session, along with other techniques, to assist with flexibility and mobility enhancing
relaxation and pain reduction.
|
Strain/CounterStrain:
|
Developed by Lawrence Jones, D.O. this form of body positioning is non-invasive, meaning non-painful, and promotes
muscular relaxation. An excellent technique to reduce or relieve pain from old injuries (chronic) or new painful
injuries (acute) Strain/CounterStrain is added to your massage session along with other techniques.
|
Acupressure:
|
Acupressure points are used to relieve or reduce pain in a specific area of your body. Applied by fingertip
pressure your therapist will stimulate points and facilitate circulation. Use of specific acupressure points helps
relieve headaches, neck, shoulder, back and hip pain. Acupressure does not have to hurt to work. Pressure may be
light, medium or deep again depending on your preferences.
|
Lymph Drainage Massage:
|
Massage applied to the tissues surrounding and to various parts of the lymph system. Generally this work is light
and slow and used for the client in need of edema reduction. Benefits include increased lymphatic flow and
circulation which relieves the feeling puffiness and congestion in tissues. This allows ease of body movement and

increased circulation and relaxation for mom and baby. This massage is provided on a specially designed body
support system for mother’s comfort. Expectant mothers in the second and third trimester should consult with
their obstetrician prior to receiving massage.
|
Hydrotherapy:
|
The use of heat to the muscles can increase the benefits of your massage session. Applied with a specially
heated pack, carefully wrapped to avoid overheating the skin, the warmth penetrates into the muscle fibers.
The use of cold is also therapeutic and may be used following Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage or other
forms of Therapeutic Massage.

sound and music therapy that creates either expansion or contraction in different systems of the body helping the
individual to release and/or integrate blocked emotions that have become trapped in the body. These blocked
emotions can be the cause of physical, emotional, mental and energetic problems and symptoms.
